IR learning from the official Xbox 360 remote? 12 years 4 months ago #528

Quick question. I just came back from Walmart  with a brand new 360 media remote This image is hidden for guests. Please log in or register to see it.

I was actually hoping to find the older version This image is hidden for guests. Please log in or register to see it. but they have stopped carrying those for the newer ones obviously. Anyhow, I have tried and tried to get the amulet remote learn the "codes" or "keys" but it will not do so. All my other receivers/devices work flawlessly with the amulet. I was wondering, since it won't learn from the new controller...will work with the older model so I can find me one of those? Again, I am referring to the white one pictured above. Also I am not interested (yet) on the use of voice commands on the 360, just the IR. Thanks!

Sorry for the delay getting back to you - I wanted to check out a couple of things first.

Out of the box, the Amulet should work fine with both the original Xbox 360 and the newer slim models, just using the standard Media Center key mappings - no learning necessary.

Presumably you've tried that thought with no success?

If your Xbox is in the same room as your Media Center, possibly you've configured your Xbox to use a different remote codeset to the default? Unfortunately, we don't currently support the alternate codesets that some remotes offer.

We also don't support learning RC6 codes, which is what the Xbox uses, so if the default codes don't work for you, unfortunately, you'll need to use the original Xbox remote. Sorry!

Eddy

Thanks for your reply. I wouldn't doubt what you said about the Amulet controlling the 360 media center out of the box. So far it has done everything else I have thrown at it. I hadn't even tried controlling it that way (like you suggested) to be honest because I hardly ever use the 360. I just went straight to IR learning feature. I just was hoping to copy the on/off, and other buttons from the 360 remote. But no biggie, the 360 controllers are wireless anyways :) THX!
