We currently don't directly support mediabrowser. We have a facility for making custom commands. At the moment this is in a early stage of development. It's available in the shipping product, but may not be sufficient to have a good voice interface to mediabrowser.

I will gather together the relevant information. It's a bit technical and can only be done by editing text files at the moment. But you seem to be up to the challenge? Hopefully should have info tomorrow.

Ok, the main info you need is in a file called CustomCommands-Sample.txt. Which is in the Amulet ProgramData\Amulet Devices folder.

You should look at this file. It has instructions and examples of custom commands. You need to edit this file and then rename it to CustomCommands.txt. Then either restart Media Center, or use the more advanced update mechanism mentioned in the file.

Now this could be fun... I edited up the file and will go try it in a bit.

Does MCE have to be running for this (control of other programs)
to work?

Here's my problem. I got a HDPVR and didn't work well with MCE.
In my quest to get it working, I started using Media Portal.

(a open souce MCE) program that is vastly superior to MCE. (though a nightmare to configure. But once running, it's awesome.

I use the Amulet remote (MCE) controls to run it - but can I add voice control via this command file? I did get it to work in MCE. (but will it work with MCE not running?)

I can't try it - because in the process of setting up Media Portal. I close down the amulet processes. (to restart it what do I need to run? I see a "talker exe and a monitor exe. scanner and bug (must all these be run?)

Media Portal might be a great thing for you guys to look into supporting. Since the people who own and install it are those that are most into home media systems and would appreciate the Amulet remote.

The Amulet software is a plugin for MCE, so yes, MCE must be running to use the Amulet Voice Recognition System.

Microsoft Media Center provides a well defined, complete software environment for media indexing, playing and plugin development. It's also available on all Windows 7 systems. We are assessing at the moment how best to expand our solution so more people can enjoy voice access and control of their media!

Do you have a time frame on when this will happen?

And will the current remote be able to handle the support? or will we need to purchase a new device?

Also, are there any new product coming out in the near future (within this year)from you guys?

I can't use MCE. I use a HDPVR and MCE will not allow me to learn my IR set stop box commands for my DISH receiver. I've tried all sorts of (tricks and work arounds that I can think of) . Because I this I can't watch TV in MCE.

I have been using the MCE commands (buttons) on the Amulet in Media Portal. It's totally configurable and I had it learn my IR commands for my STB. Everything works great except... of course no voice control. A little external app would be nice where we could teach it some commands to control media portal (or really any program would be super nice).

I've thought about leaving MCE running in the background, but them the MCE remote control buttons conflict. = (

While adding my WISH LIST to future updates. I'd really like to see...

1. TOGGLE for voice recording (tip remote red light comes on) so that I can turn this OFF when not using it for a while (like now) to conserve battery life.

2. TOGGLE for "lights on" for same reason. I like to hold the remote while just browsing and the movement turns on the light on and just wastes battery. Is there currently a secret to turning one of both of these things off?

A guy on the Vox Commando website is using The Amulet remote and Voxcommando to control XBMC.
I don't use XBMC or Vox Commando myself, but for anyone not able to use the Amulet speech
recognition in MediaCenter it might be worth a look.

VoxCommando can also control MediaPortal (with the Amulet or another mic), but can only do button commands (i.e. no requesting music or video by name).

With XBMC you can do almost anything.

Also works with MediaMonkey, EventGhost and iTunes, and can do keyboard emulation and custom macro building, plus much more. B)

I'm using XBMC due to suggestion on here - with VOX commando - and it is awesome.
At this point though I'm trying to work out some bugs - I have such a huge music library that VC is having problems compiling my library. (around 40,000 songs)

I'm working with the programmer on the VC forum to work out the problem.

You can do all this with EventGhost. It is free, and works with any MCE remote including the Amulet.

YES - I've come a long way since that post. Thoguh I'm now using XBMC I do want to try and get back to MCE (less hassle - tweaking, problems etc).

To get voice control now you just need VOX COMMANDO - AWESOME! ! ! ! !
great support forum, allows any voice command of most any program.
