The software also seems to have a hard time recognizing the word HD. "Show Channel History HD" only seems to register as "Show Channel History" in the log.

What I think we'll do for the next beta is:

- Recognize both the long and short channel names
- If a long channel name is shared among several actual channels, then go with the hidef version where possible (i.e. the one with HD at the end of the name)
- If a user manages to say a channel name, and there is an equivalent channel with the same name but HD appended, then match that one instead
- (The user can always say the channel numbers to get to a specific version of the channel unambiguously, if needed)

I think this will do a good job of letting people get to the hidef channel by default.

Precisely exactly. I did my channel vocabulary manually and it seems to be working now, but it was annoying at first to try saying History HD and have it take me to the SD History channel.

Tried finding several programs as a test, including American Idol, CSI: New York, One Tree Hill, and the A-Team. All came up properly.

Only weird thing is that if I already have the remote playing music in the background, the volume tends to increase whenever I am in the TV program doing searches.

Re "I'm particularly interested to hear about entries in TVChannels.txt that do not match what you think they should be."

One of my channel lineups is SHOXHD and another is SHOCHD. I'd expect to select these by saying "show-ex-aitch-dee" and "show-cee-aithc-dee", but the system appears to recognize them (and pronounce them in responses) as "shocks-aitch-dee" and "shock-aitch-dee". The potential for confusion is obvious.

I haven't attempted to edit TVChannels.txt or editing Amulet.ini, setting PrintChannels=Yes, restarting and looking at the log file. I'll be happy to do so if you need me to.

Thanks Mark - I think we have enough info to progress this for now.

If you'd like to experiment, the file to edit is TVChannelMap.txt (you may need to create it if it doesn't already exist; see TVChannelMap-Sample.txt for a template). You could try creating more distinct names for the channels, possibly by putting a space in the name. For example, add two lines like this:

SHOXHD, SHO XHD
SHOCHD, SHO CHD

If this fixes it for you, we can look at including this as a default translation rule for future installations.

OK thanks Eddy. I've added these lines to TVChannelMap.txt:

;; Showtime HD Channels
SHOWHD, SHOW HD
SHO2HD, SHOw 2HD
SHO2PHD, SHO 2PHD
SHOCSHD, SHO CSHD
SHOWCPHD, SHO CPHD
SHOWXHD, SHOW XHD

This does seems to help. I'll continue to experiment with other synonyms for these channels -- for example by leaving off the "HD", since as another poster has noted, anyone who has HD channels will want to watch them by default. I understand that this general default will also be built into a future beta version.
