Asking everyday remote users to plug the remote into a USB to charge will limit the user base. Lots of wives and kids won't bother with it. I don't like charging it this way myself. Yes that's lazy but that's the whole point of a good remote control. I would rather have a charging cradle or simply disposable batteries.

I would also like a charging craddle and some type of indicator when the battery is low and in need to charging. Right now, when the remote needs charging, the only sign I see is the voice commands stop working.

I'd also like to see a timeout feature on the wireless voice link. I stored the Amulet remote in an upright position, and in the morning, the battery was depleted. Turning off the transceiver after a certain timeout period might help increase the interval between chargings.

I assume a mini USB cradle could easily be developed by Amulet or a third-party. I have a wall charger with a mini USB plug (from an old cell phone) and it seems to charge my remote fine.

I agree about having a timeout for holding the remote in an upright position. Is this something that could be addressed via a firmware upgrade? I have a little container that I put my remotes in and it holds it in the upright position and if I put the Amulet in there, it just stays red until the battery dies.

There is a button combination for deep sleep mode as listed here -
Extra Button Functions

OK, copied here, but that link is the official info:
Deep Sleep Mode
If you are transporting your Amulet Voice Remote, buttons may be accidentally pressed in transit, or the remote may tilt enough to activate the microphone. If either occurs for an extended time, the battery will run down.

To avoid this, you can put the remote into a deep sleep. Press and hold the DVD Menu and TV Power buttons simultaneously, and the Amulet Logo will flash green twice. The remote is now asleep, and will ignore button presses and movement.

To wake it again, press the green Media Center start button in the center of the remote, or briefly connect the charging cable to a USB port.

We hope to bring out a cradle in the future.
