The company has spent the last 18 months developing its own software and hardware, which features patent-pending technology to automatically sense when it is being spoken to. Voice commands are then transmitted via secure wireless link to the Media Center which responds accordingly. The Amulet remote also operates as a traditional remote control with buttons, so users can choose the most convenient way to carry out any task.

Together with 14 other finalists from around the globe, the company will have 10 minutes of stage time to demonstrate their product to the world's media and members of the Consumer Association of America. The winner will receive $50,000 to further develop its product line, as well as free tunrkey exhibit space at the upcoming 2009 International CES®, the world's largest consumer technology tradeshow, to be held in Las Vegas on January 8-11.

The i-stage finalists will have their products reviewed and judged on Monday, October 20, at the Four Seasons Hotel in Las Vegas, by a panel of technology experts including Kevin Kelly, Wired Magazine; Ryan Block, formerly of Engadget and Jeff Pulver. Molly Wood, executive editor of CNET, will serve as Master of Ceremonies for the event.

 

Late Late Show host Pat Kenny walked Amulet through its paces, demonstrating its ability to play music on demand (in this case U2's Beautiful Day), display photos, and more.

As is often the case, time constraints prevented Pat from showing all of Amulet's advanced features – including the 7-inch touch-screen interface, its ability to record multiple TV channels simultaneously, and even its talent for instantly identifying any song currently playing.

Regardless, it was clear that Pat was a convert to the Amulet system for managing music and video. In fact, in a pre-show interview on RTE's Morning Ireland radio program earlier in the day, he commented that this was the "toy for a big boy ... or girl" that he would most like to own himself.

Summarising at the end of his demonstration, Pat predicted that Amulet would "take the world by storm" -- and if early customer demand is any indication, he may well be right.
