The Amulet Windows 8-compatible Release is now available for download here (it runs fine on Windows 7 also).

This release also includes support for My Movies 5; it continues to work fine with My Movies 4 as well, of course.

You can download it from here:

As usual, please let us know if you run into any problems installing it, or have any suggestions for improvements.

For those running Windows 8, remember that you must have Media Center installed on Windows 8 before installing this release; it is not included in the base operating system and must be purchased separately from Microsoft.

Here is a summary of changes since the previous releases, Beta 4.00.01, Beta 3.00.01, Beta 2.18.14, Beta 2.18.16 and Beta 2.18.17:

  • Fix: Now fully supports My Movies 5
  • Fix: Installing on Windows 8 with no Media Centre present now shows a suitable error message, instead of saying Windows 7 is required
  • New: Added an option to Amulet Settings / Diagnostics to allow you to disable the Windows desktop error dialog that can sometimes be triggered if a Media Centre plug-in or other application fails. These desktop dialogs are almost impossible to dismiss using the remote control, which is inconvenient on a HTPC. This new option instead logs such fails to the event log and simply exits to the desktop, where you can restart Media Centre with a simple push of the green button.
