Hi,

I'm intersted with your product but I need to know if the speech recognition works with other languages (in particular french).

Otherwise, is this feature planned?

Also, do you intend to ship your products in Europe?

Thanks

Hi Tip,

The software we ship with Amulet for Windows Media Center only supports English at this time.

However, the Amulet remote itself also works with third party speech solutions such as www.voxcommando.com/ which supports French and many other languages.

While we're not currently shipping to Europe, it's definitely something we would like to do. I can't give you an exact timeframe I'm afraid, other than to say it is on our roadmap. Once that happens, it's likely we'll look at adding support for other languages also.

Regards,

Eddy

How does it handle accents. Does it understand a Scottish accent?

Would love one of these but every voice control application and device I have ever tried with the exception of Kinect has difficulty understanding a Scottish accent.

We've had pretty good success with a wide range of accents, in a noisy environment, when exhibiting Amulet at shows.

For strong accents, we do recommend running the training wizard first which improves reliability. This is just the standard Speech training wizard included with Windows 7.

If you've previously tried Windows 7's speech recognition, with training, you'll have a sense as to whether it will work well for you. What Amulet adds to the mix is (a) a good quality microphone that eliminates a lot of background noise etc, and (b) speech gramamrs that are closely tailored to the media content on your system.

The standard Windows speech recognition tries to handle dictation, access to all documents on your system, etc. and can be a bit vague, especially with potentially ambiguous voice commands. Nailing it down to a specific vocabulary makes it much more reliable, we've found.

Re Kinect, we actually have an in-house version of Amulet running using Kinect's recognizer at the moment, though we're not yet in a position to release it. Watch this space...
