Would love one of these but every voice control application and device I have ever tried with the exception of Kinect has difficulty understanding a Scottish accent.
We've had pretty good success with a wide range of accents, in a noisy environment, when exhibiting Amulet at shows.
For strong accents, we do recommend running the training wizard first which improves reliability. This is just the standard Speech training wizard included with Windows 7.
If you've previously tried Windows 7's speech recognition, with training, you'll have a sense as to whether it will work well for you. What Amulet adds to the mix is (a) a good quality microphone that eliminates a lot of background noise etc, and (b) speech gramamrs that are closely tailored to the media content on your system.
The standard Windows speech recognition tries to handle dictation, access to all documents on your system, etc. and can be a bit vague, especially with potentially ambiguous voice commands. Nailing it down to a specific vocabulary makes it much more reliable, we've found.
Re Kinect, we actually have an in-house version of Amulet running using Kinect's recognizer at the moment, though we're not yet in a position to release it. Watch this space...
