TOPIC: large libraries

large libraries 10 years 7 months ago #1371

Hi my parents are both blind and love the remote to help them with TV, movies and music. It's an absolute godsend to them so i'd like to thank the team for their work in this excellent product which has improved their independence no end. My question is about large libraries as my father loves music and having an Xbox music pass means there are about 33,000 songs, 600 films and thousands of TV episodes (4 tuners on the pc) in his library. The machine is a quad core xeon and the enumeration of the music library seems to be taking its toll in amulet. I'm upgrading them to a quad core i7 Haswell, 12gb and a 64gb ssd for the OS and music, and 2 3TB hdds for the rest Now that your 64bit beta divers are out I'm also going to install Windows 8.1 (need the boot to Windows option)I was wondering if there's anything else I can do to speed things up for such large libraries... is there an SQL server option at all or is there a more efficient way I should organise my libraries?

you could try setting up a RAM disk and running the database files from there.

haven't tried this myself but have heard of others having speed improvements with a RAM disk.
